"Ongoing freight transportation capacity tightness continued to drive down the most recent reading of the Shipper Conditions Index (SCI), which was released late last week by freight transportation consultancy FTR.
FTR describes the SCI as an indicator that sums up all market influences that affect the transport environment for shippers, with a reading above zero being favorable and a reading below zero being unfavorable and a “less-than-ideal environment for shippers.” For September, the most recent month for which data is available, the SCI came in at -8.2, down from August’s -6.7. Citing data from Truckstop.com, FTR pointed to underlying tightness in capacity that is steadily raising rates and some continued uptick from hurricane-impacted capacity utilization."
